School-Based Counseling

Supporting Students Where They Are—Right in Their Schools.
At Cornerstone Counseling Center, we believe early access to mental health care makes all the difference. That’s why we partner with schools across Connecticut to provide students with compassionate, individualized support—right where they learn and grow.
Since 2020, we've worked inside school buildings to help students manage emotional challenges, build resilience, and succeed academically. By integrating therapy into the school environment, we make care more accessible, more effective, and more connected to the lives of the students and families we serve.
How We Support Students and Families
Our school-based therapists work closely with school staff, students, and families to:
-
Provide individual counseling tailored to each student's emotional and behavioral needs
-
Help students cope with academic pressure, peer relationships, anxiety, trauma, and more
-
Collaborate with teachers and administrators to promote student success
-
Support parents in navigating 504 plans, PPT meetings, and special education services
Our goal is simple: to help every student reach their full potential—mentally, emotionally, and academically.

Our School Partnerships
Cornerstone currently operates school-based offices in:
-
Plainville School System (since 2020)
-
CREC Schools (since 2022)
-
Windsor Public Schools (newest partnership)
These in-school programs bring licensed therapists directly into classrooms and counseling offices, giving students access to timely care and ongoing support within a familiar setting.
A Message from Our Program Director
"Cornerstone is excited to work with Plainville schools to provide quality, collaborative care to the students and families in the community. It is an honor to become part of this community and to continue to provide opportunities to both students and families to ensure we are assisting students in reaching their full potential mentally, emotionally, and academically. We believe taking a proactive individualized approach is essential to helping students reach their goals."

Proven Impact. Real Results.
Cornerstone Counseling’s school-based services aren’t just convenient—they’re effective. In a recent survey conducted at CREC Impact Academy (Project Prevent 2023–24), 100% of staff agreed or strongly agreed that Cornerstone’s presence had a positive effect on school climate and culture.
Teachers and staff saw firsthand how access to therapy helped students emotionally, socially, and academically:
"Many students who would otherwise not receive counseling services are able to through Cornerstone."
"Students enjoy going to therapy and have built great relationships with their individual therapists!"
"[Therapist] has been great. She communicates regularly with staff."
